In Flander's Fields:

In Flander's Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still singing bravely, fly
scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flander's Fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If you break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flander's Fields

John McCrae

Road To Eternity:

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.

We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We are all meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay...

Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.

But when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

I Did Not Die:

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain,
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Experience of the Soul:

The changes and transitions that occur in the experience of the soul at the moment of its passing must be extraordinary and mysterious. To have the companionship and guidance of angels at such a time is a gift of great comfort and peace.

Prayer for Someone that has Passed:

God saw you getting tired,
He did what he thought best;
He put His arms around you,
And said, "Come and rest."

He opened up His golden gates,
On that heartbreaking day;
And with His arms around you,
You gently slipped away.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
A part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

When I From Thee Am Gone:

Dear,
when I from thee am gone,
Gone are all my joys at once;
I loved thee, and thee alone,
In those love I joyed once,
And although your sights I leave,
Sight wherein my joys do lie,
Till that death do sense bereave,
Never shall affection die.

Perhaps You Sent a Lovely Card:

Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
Or sat quietly in a chair;
Perhaps you sent beautiful flowers,
If so, we saw them there.

Perhaps you sent or spoke kind words
As any friend could say;
Perhaps you were not there at all
Just thought of us that day.

Whatever you did to console the heart,
We thank you so much, whatever the part.

I Don't Know Where:

I don't know where fathers go when they die.
I have an idea
that after a rest--whenever it is--he won't be happy
unless there's work to do
He won't just sit on a cloud
and wait for the girl he's loved
and the children she bore.
He'll be busy there, too
repairing the streets,
oiling the gates,
improving things
smoothing the way.

Sweet Dreams My Heavenly Prince (Princess):

[Baby's name here],
I carried you for almost a year,
Sharing my voice rendering songs
Telling you all about the world
Reserving a place for you deep in my heart
Your perfect little body and soul crowned you a prince
The Lord picked you at once to enjoy eternal heavenly bliss.

Rest In Peace:

You are not forgotten loved one
Nor will you ever be
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee

We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As time goes by, we miss you more,
Your loving smile, your gentle face
No one can fill your vacant place.

Footprints:

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he Was walking along the beach with the LORD, Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in The sand; one belonged to him, and the other to The LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, He looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the Very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.

"LORD, you said that once I Decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times In my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most You would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child.
I love you and would never leave you. During your times Of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

A Farewell:

Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea,
Thy tribute wave deliver:
No more by thee my steps shall be,
For ever and for ever.

Flow, softly flow, by lawn and lea,
A rivulet then a river:
No where by thee my steps shall be,
For ever and for ever.

But here will sigh thine alder tree,
And here thine aspen shiver;
And here by thee will hum the bee,
For ever and for ever.

A thousand suns will stream on thee,
A thousand moons will quiver;
But not by thee my steps shall be,
For ever and for ever.

A Face In The Clouds:

I looked towards the clouds today
and for a moment saw your face
And wondered just were you have gone
with a hope it's a better place

Did you show yourself to me today
to tell me you're alright?
Or was it just a daydream
playing tricks upon my sight

Then I thought of when you left
you did not say a word
No hugs and kisses..
no good-bye was heard

You have changed our lives forever
Your time here not in vain
and hope you know we always tried
to keep you safe from pain

We will always feel the void inside
because you are not here
But each new thought you send our way
let's us know you're always near

So until our journey nears it's end
And we hear the angels sing
We'll face each new day as it comes
and live off the love you bring.

Memories:

Little children with big-eyed wonder
Baby hair and toothy smiles
Rosy cheeks and sweet little kisses
Childhood blessings for a while

Butterflies and jeweled bracelets
Pink ribbon bows and lacey dresses
Patented shoes and mommy's makeup
Tea for two and party messes

Fishing in the pond without shoes on
Baseball and tree climbing until noon
Dirt and mud engraved in clothing
Your smile would brighten any room

Your eyes, your smiles, your laughter
My heart is empty and full of sorrow
Our lives together are no more
Help me face tomorrow

You are near, coaxing me to go on
To hold and kiss you one more time
God has given and now he has taken
I will always love you sweet child of mine.

I'm Still Here:

Please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

Memorial Poem

The Plan of the Master Weaver:

Our lives are but fine weavings that God and we prepare,
Each life becomes a fabric planned and fashioned in His care.
We may not always see just how the weavings intertwine,
But we must trust the Master's hand and follow His design,
For He can view the pattern upon the upper side,
While we must look from underneath and trust His hand to guide...

Sometimes a strand of sorrow is added to His plan,
And though is's difficult for us, we still must understand
That it's He who fills the shuttle, it's He who knows what's best,
So we must weave in patience and leave to Him the rest.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why...
The dark threads are as needed in the Weaver's skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

Broken Chain:

We knew little that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left me peaceful memories; your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

I Am With You Always:

As you hold me close in memory, even though we are apart, my spirit will live on, there within your heart ... I am with you always. When you lean on trusted friends and their caring hugs enfold you, within their loving arms, I'll be there to hold you ... I am with you always. And beyond the far horizon when we'll finally be together, where love will be eternal and life will last forever ... I am with you always. --Lisa O. Engelhardt

May you take comfort in the memories and love that surround you, and find hope in the promise of eternal life. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

You:

You lived your life with 1,000 lies
They told you, you would get better
You are like a dusty library book
On a bookshelf
Waiting to be discovered

Through the years
You have been poked
You have been proded
You are not yourself but of someone else

You left the lives of 1,000 hearts
You are like a history book
But you have no chapters
You were my best friend
My buddy, My pal

You know you didn't want to leave
You had so much ahead of you
You were almost at the top of the hill
But you came upon a crisis
That you just could not get around

I see you in my dreams at night
And I know that you are alright
You are gone from my vision
But you are not gone from my heart
I will see you again when the time comes

*For my Papa (Grandpa) will all my heart.

The Mansion of Heaven:

This world, however beautiful,
was never meant to be
The place that we would call our home
for all eternity.

And though we would not choose to leave,
a loving God knows best,
And in His time,
He lifts us to a place of peace and rest.

For He has built a mansion
where His children will abide,
Free from pain and sorrow,
forever at His side.

He said He’d never leave us
to face our trials alone,
And though sometimes we fail Him,
He never fails His own.

And even when our choices
are less than He would ask,
He knows when human courage
is unequal to the task.

We cannot judge what happens,
though tears and questions start
We only see what’s visible
God sees into the heart....

And though there may be many things
that we cannot explain,
We can be sure it breaks His heart
to see His children’s pain.

In loving arms,
He bears us to a quiet place apart
Where He mends the wounded spirit
and heals the broken heart.

And though these ones we love so much
have left our present sight
And passed into a better world
of majesty and light,
Someday we’ll be together
in our Father’s home above,
Where we’ll thank Him for His mercy
and praise Him for His love.

God Hath Not Promised:

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain rocky and steep,
Never a river turbid and deep.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

Whispering Winds:

The Wind whispered to me
Its voice echoed from the distance
Through the Ages
As I walked along the seashore
Where shattered wampum
and broken oyster shells pricked my feet
And I faced the West Wind.

"Hear me, for I am the Light
And the strength.
Fear not my leaving you
for I will always be here".

The wind died
And a seagull flapped heavy wings
in the northern sky.
I called upon you
and you were there.
Whispering in my ear.

Native drums beat in my heart
And you hear us, you hear us.
You hear us calling to Grandfather,
And the wind shuffles the limbs
Making them dance to the beat of the drum.

And everywhere, there is a picture of you.
The Earth, the Water,
the Flowers.
We will remember
And your voice will always echo in our ears.

The Year Before Last:

The holiday season is approaching,
and with it comes the New Year.
Although for me time passes slowly,
New Year's Day will ring in quickly.

I dread this New Year's Day
because they will look at me
in a terribly strange way
when I get misty-eyed,
and talk about something you had done.

After you first left me,
they reasoned when I cried,
"He's only been gone a few months."
And I would catch that look of
understanding in their eyes,
and found some comfort that they knew.

But on last New Year's Day,
my first thought upon awakening was,
Oh God, my son died last year,
not just a few months ago, not even this year,
but last year.
He will never live in this year.

They didn't understand, they didn't reason,
that last year, for me, the loss was still new.
They thought, "It happened last year,
so long ago, why does she still cry?"
I could see it in their eyes.

This New Year's Day, will it be different?
Will my first thought upon awakening be,
Oh God, my son died the year before last,
not a few months ago, not this year or even last year,
but the year before last?
He will never live in this year.

Will they even listen, should I not look them
in the eyes, for fear that I shall see,
"Why is she still crying? It happened so long ago.
It was the year before last."

Those words that we use
to describe the passage of time,
a few months, this year,
last year, the year before last.
They don't know that time stands still for me.

Will they understand that's why I cry?
Don't they know
my son just died ...
the year before last?

If I Knew:

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me,"
"Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes
you'll have no regrets about today.
